Christmas and New Years are over and now we head into the emotional desert of the year. You know the time (January to April), when we are covered by clouds for days and, the temperature is either very cold or right at freezing (big mess) and a lot of people don’t have activities during this time and depression can easily set in.

The holiday season had me running all over the 4th District visiting different post Christmas parties. I’ve been visiting different veteran groups such as Every Third Saturday in South Minneapolis and Honor Bound Veteran in Rochester.

The 5th District held our Oratorical Contest this last weekend, I would like to thank all the contestants, their friends and families for their support, our volunteers and especially to Wold-Chamberlain Post 99 in Minneapolis for its space to hold our contest. We had some great speakers and a very deserving winner.

ST. PAUL — American Legion Post 201 in Mora has no bar or restaurant. It has a small piece of land with a veterans memorial on it, and a building which displays local veteran-related memorabilia, like a museum. It functions as a meeting space.

On Monday, Jan. 13, we had the privilege of hosting American Legion Deputy Director of Claims and Benefits Philip Du at our VBA Regional Office and American Legion National Claims Office, located in the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal Building at Fort Snelling.
