We just finished our week’s tour with our National Commander James LaCoursiere Jr.

I want to first thank all of the posts who hosted our visits. What a great job! I especially want to thank all who turned out at each event. The national commander had a great and personal message for the “Be the One” program and was very impressed with the great turnout at each stop. He commented on how well-organized and comfortable he felt with Minnesota’s tour schedule.

My compliments to Adjutant Mike Maxa, Communications Director Tim Engstrom and Membership Director Carla Tappainer for all their hard work.

The commander stressed that he was hoping that Minnesota could achieve a 100 percent CPR turn-in.

On that note, Sylvan Fix from the Americanism Committee will spearhead that effort. You can contact him with any questions 507-313-3376 or via email at [email protected].

Please remember that every Legion member has 25 cents taken out of their dues for the Hospital Association program and this qualifies as an entry on the CPR form. So there should be no CPR reports with a “zero” entry.

As president of Legionville, we are looking for a great turnout at this year’s School Safety Camp. This year, there will be six weekly sessions beginning June 15 with the last session starting on July 27.

Other events at Legionville are: Work & Play weekend May 15-18, Junior Fun Weekend Aug 8-10, Camporee Sept 4-7. We would love to have more districts attending this fun event, so please contact Jody Hassing for more information, ALR Romp Sept 11-14, new SAL Turkey Hunt Sept 28-30, and the John Zgoda Deer Hunt Oct 3-5.

Our camp projects this year are new flooring for the dorms and sewer upgrade/replacement for all dorms and cabins. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated.

The Indy Spring Meetings will be May 4-6, and though I have no official duties I will be Peggy’s chauffer and escort. (Peggy Moon is the alternate NECman.)

My project is the Veterans Defense Project. Fundraising is coming along and as of this publication you have helped raise $41,082 toward my goal of $60,000. My sincere thank you to all who have donated.

I want to thank all who were able to attend my testimonial dinner on April 5 in Walker. I hope everyone had a great time, and I very much appreciate everyone for taking time out of their busy schedules to help Peggy and I to celebrate my year as your commander.
