1st District Commander’s October 2024 Report
As I sit here thinking about what to write about this month’s article, all that comes to mind how great most of the 1st District posts are doing with their new officers and, I can say: Keep up the excellent job you are doing in helping to get new members in and raising money for the great causes you do.

Fall Conference is coming up
ST. CLOUD — The Fall Conference is planned for Oct. 25-26 with committee meetings on Oct. 24.
American Legion helping out at Fisher House
MINNEAPOLIS — The American Legion Department of Minnesota’s Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation staff is asking for volunteers to help with outdoors work at the Fisher House on the campus of the Minneapolis VA.
Barbknecht endorsed as NEC representative
Bill Barbknecht, a member of the Adamson-Norman Post 30 Fergus Falls, has been endorsed by his post and the 9th District at their district convention for the office of National Executive Committee member representing the Department of Minnesota for the 2025-2027 executive term.
Anthrax resolution stalls at national convention
NEW ORLEANS — There were six resolutions from Minnesota that were sent to the 105th National American Legion Convention for review. None was passed.
Recent 6th District commander served as a medic and was shot in Iraq
IRONTON — A lot of folks throughout the Minnesota American Legion Family know Anthony Koop from statewide get-togethers — rallies, conventions and conferences. He’s smiling, making jokes and, when he was 6th District commander this past year, usually winning membership awards.

NEW ORLEANS — James C. “Jim” Kellogg of Adams Post 146 was elected a national vice commander at the 105th American Legion National Convention.
Chaplain: Harvest is a good time to give thanks
Harvest season is here. Street corners across our Minnesota landscape will soon have sandwich boards posted inviting us to a church fall meal. I invite you to partake in a church meal that men and women prepared who want to be of good in this world.
