Teams set for Legion Baseball state tournaments
After a weekend of substate action, the field is set. The teams that will play for the Minnesota American Legion Baseball Div. I State Tournament title are from across the state. They are:
Rochester Redhawks
Mankato National
Eden Prairie
Farmington
Burnsville
Hastings
Forest Lake
Fridley Gold
Champlin
Duluth
Osseo
Pierz
Sartell
Bemidji
Maple Grove
A few small schools showed they can play with the big schools, which seems to happen each year and brings Cinderella stories to the tournament.
The Div. I tournament takes place at Gleason Fields in Maple Grove. Action starts at 10 a.m. Thursday. There are additional state tournament games at Delano Municipal Stadium, Osseo Memorial Field and St. Michael Lower Rec Center.
Watch the state baseball website, minnesotalegionbaseball.com, for schedules and game updates.
Minnesota sends the top-two teams from the Div. I tournament to compete at the American Legion Baseball Central Plains Regional, which this year is in West Fargo, N.D. Its website is found here. The top team from that tournament qualifies for the American Legion World Series in Shelby, N.C. Its website is found here.
