Protocol trains members to spot signs of suicide risks
NEW YORK — As part of its “Be the One” mission, The American Legion has partnered with Columbia University to develop training for responding to veterans who may be in crisis.
Upcoming online sessions are 1:30 p.m. (2:30 Eastern) on Nov. 7, Nov. 21, Dec. 5 and Dec. 19.
The training will help members learn risk factors and warning signs, how to communicate effectively and the types of suicidal ideation and four behaviors that indicate imminent risk.
The protocol also shares the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale.
