Preparing Tomorrow’s Leaders: Join Minnesota American Legion College at Camp Ripley

Invest in Your Leadership: Minnesota American Legion College Returns on April 23- 26, 2026
The Minnesota American Legion College returns this April at Camp Ripley, offering Legionnaires across the state an outstanding opportunity to sharpen their leadership skills, gain practical knowledge, and build lasting connections.
Held over a multi-day weekend, this immersive training experience is designed for members at all levels—whether you’re newly active in your post or already serving at the district or department level. The program focuses on real-world leadership development and provides the tools necessary to support and strengthen the mission of The American Legion.
Training That Makes a Difference
Attendees will engage in a dynamic curriculum focused on the practical responsibilities of Legion leadership. Topics include post management and officer responsibilities, where participants learn how to effectively manage post operations, build member engagement, and respond to community needs.
The program also includes focused district and department officer training. This segment is tailored for those looking to take on or currently holding leadership roles at higher organizational levels. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of their duties, as well as tools for leading with impact across the broader Legion structure.
Strategic planning and goal-setting are also covered, helping members create actionable plans to support their posts and further the goals of the organization. In addition to these structured topics, the college explores leadership styles, fundraising strategies, and other essential skills to help Legionnaires thrive in any role.
Leadership in Action at Camp Ripley
Unlike traditional classroom settings, the Minnesota American Legion College emphasizes interactive, hands-on learning. Under the guidance of experienced instructors, attendees will participate in team-based exercises and problem-solving simulations that mirror real-life leadership challenges. These activities help members refine their decision-making skills, resolve conflicts effectively, and learn to build cohesive, high-performing teams.
This leadership-in-action approach brings The American Legion’s core principles to life, giving participants experience they can immediately apply back home.
Strengthening Connections Across the State
Beyond formal training, the college also offers something just as valuable: camaraderie. Legionnaires from across Minnesota gather at Camp Ripley not just to learn, but to connect. The shared experience fosters lasting friendships, the exchange of ideas, and a strong network of leaders dedicated to the same mission—serving veterans, their families, and their communities.
Program Cost and Details
The cost to attend the Minnesota American Legion College is $200 per participant. This fee includes housing for three nights, access to classroom facilities and technology, all course materials, and the opening night social event.
Participants are responsible for their own meals. Camp Ripley offers affordable on-site dining for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and there is also a restaurant located just outside the base for those who prefer off-site options.
Posts and districts are encouraged to sponsor members who wish to attend. Covering the cost of attendance is not only a meaningful investment in a member’s growth, it’s an investment in the future strength and success of the organization as a whole.
