O’Bar endorsed for department historian

Karen O’Bar has been endorsed by William Larson Post 366 in Bertha for department historian for the year 2024-2025 year. O’Bar served in U.S. Army from 1985 to 2009. She is a 15-year American Legion member at Post 366 and has served as post commander, is currently membership director, adjutant and Boys State chairman.

On the district level, she has served as 6th District commander, vice commander and membership director.  She is in her past district commander year. She has been on the finance board, and is also district Children & Youth Committee chairman. She has been a delegate to several national conventions.

O’Bar is a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 366 and the American Legion Riders Chapter 366.

She has two children — Krystal, who is 26 and married, and Ryan, who is 22. She still works part time as a direct care specialist. Karen and Mike VanHeel have been together over nine years and he currently serves as a vice commander in the 6th District. and is serving on the 6th District Finance Committee. He is commander of Post 366.
