National Commander Seehafer issues statement on Trump’s Medal of Honor comment

National Commander Daniel Seehafer of The American Legion, which has 1.6 million members including some who are Medal of Honor recipients, has issued the following statement.

“We strongly disagree with former President Trump on his assertion that the Presidential Medal of Freedom is ‘much better’ than the Medal of Honor,” Seehafer said. “The military’s highest honor for valor has only been awarded 3,538 times, a testament to its rigorous standards for bravery, courage, sacrifice and integrity. We honor these individuals for their selfless service, commitment to their fellow servicemembers and heroism during life-threatening situations.”
