Minneapolis Post 555 expands veterans donations
MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis Falldin Post 555 began a project in November of 2024 by sending wooden puzzles, games and plastic car models to the Minneapolis VA Medical Center. It was a great project to provide activities for the hospital veterans.
They have since expanded the project to include the Minneapolis Veterans Home. Many items have been sent to the home including shelving donated from Lowe’s of Blaine for their greenhouse to store plants and supplies.
Another aspect of the project is to provide additional toiletries to the VA hospital by collecting travel-size toiletries at the First Lutheran Church in Columbia Heights.
Travel size items are required by the hospital because the veterans share rooms and have limited space.
Additional items are also sent to the Veterans to the Community Resource Referral Center at various locations in Minnesota.
The project continues to support Minnesota veterans with many needed items as well as some fun activities to occupy their time. It is a simple way to say “Thank You for your Service” to our fabulous country.
The project chair, Mel Robinson of Legion Post 555, indicated that during the last year, “we have received more than $2,600 from various businesses and personal donations. We will continue providing items to the VA hospital and the veterans home as long as we are able.”
