ALR Director: Fund 85 Run to cross southern Minnesota

By Jody Hassing

Hello, Legion Family!

Motorcycle season has arrived! I want to remind everyone to watch out for motorcycles on the road, take that extra look in both directions to ensure that you are not overlooking a motorcycle.

With motorcycle season comes benefit runs hosted by Minnesota American Legion Riders (MNALR) chapters throughout the state.

On MNALR.org, under “resources,” is a calendar where we can each highlight our rides and events. Each district has a sub-calendar for your rides and events, please contact your district representative to have events added.

Attention all American Legion Riders chapters in the Department of Minnesota, your district representatives have received a copy of the proposed Constitution & Bylaws. If you would like a copy, please contact me (jodyhassing@gmail.com) or our secretary (secretary@mnalr.org), and we will send you a copy for your chapter to review and vote on. We will vote on this at the MNALR Convention in July in Willmar.

Please remember to return your Chapter Consolidated Report. Let’s show the Legion what we do!

The Fund 85 Run is in the final stages of planning. The kickoff party will be July 24 at Pipestone American Legion Post 6.  The doors will open at 4 p.m., dinner at 6 p.m., and program at 7 p.m.

A block of rooms has been reserved at Grandstay Hotel & Suites in Pipestone. Thursday evening, we will stay in Montevideo, and a block of rooms is available at the Grandstay.

Friday evening we will stay in Austin; there is a block of rooms at the Days Inn, and right next door to the Days Inn is the AmericInn.

Saturday evening has not been finalized as I am writing this article, but we are looking at blocking rooms in La Crescent (more to come). The ending party will be July 28 at Bayport American Legion Post 491. We usually plan to arrive at the ending location between 1 and 2 p.m., more details to follow.  Information for the Fund 85 Run will be posted on Facebook and on our website: www.mnalr.org.

If your post’s Legion Family is interested in hosting the Riders this year and you are located along this route, please contact me or MNALR Ride Captain Ted Berg (ridecaptain@mnalr.org).

If you would like assistance setting up a chapter at your post, please let me or your district Riders representative know so we can help you get things going. If you are interested in having me talk to your chapter or district about the proposed Constitution & Bylaws, please contact me.

God bless, and keep the rubber side down.

Jody Hassing of Bloomington Unit 550 is the director of the Minnesota American Legion Riders.
