Mail Call: Law and order has two faces

“Law and order” is a fine sentiment. It is also a favorite of authoritarians. Authoritarians can be authoritarians by gaining control of what laws are passed and how those laws are interpreted and enforced. A “dictator” doesn’t go around “breaking the law.” He, or sometimes she, merely “enforces the law.”
