Connections made at Boys State last a lifetime

By Neil Kruse

I read of a number of Veterans Day programs and attended one myself.  Very inspiring!

I hope you have a great Thanksgiving. Even though we find many things to complain about, we have even more for which to be thankful.

Minnesota reps of the Boys State program made several connections at the Directors’ Conference in Indianapolis.  An upcoming share from another state will show how they keep in contact with attendees and their parents.

This led me to think about Posts contacting parents of students you know to be eligible for Boys State.  Many times parents recognize opportunities of potential life experiences better than the teenager.  Spreading the word about our program to parents while sitting at a school event can lead to more interest in attending in June.

Attending Boys State certainly enhances a resume, but even more, the experience typically leads to more scholarships and is very valuable to those applying to one of the military academies.

Connections made at Boys State last a lifetime.  Leadership skills developed will be used with teams and with other programs.  It’s a bonus for the attendees, as well as those they work with after Boys State is completed.

Thank you for your contribution to improving your communities!  May your holiday gatherings be a blessing to you and others!
