LEGIONVILLE — The 15th Annual Junior Fun Weekend was held Aug. 8-10 at Legionville in Brainerd.

Friday after everyone got settled the girls played a couple of games to “get to know” one another.

One was a bead game where they went around and collected a bead from one another and introduced themselves and told that person an interesting fact about themselves. They collected these beads to make a bracelet.

Saturday morning, the younger girls learned from the older girls how to raise the American flag. Then they learned about the poppy, heard about the Poppy Lady, and learned how to make a poppy from Department Poppy Chairman Hope Wilson.

The girls also made some poppy fingerpaint art to take home. All of this helped them earn their Poppy Patch from the Patch Program.

Thank you, Hope, for doing this!

Later they tie-dyed T-shirts and played some fun games outside. Then it was off to the beach for some fun!

As night came, they learned how to lower the American flag and fold it while learning the meaning of the folds. Thank you to the Department Americanism Chairman Tamara Thayer. The juniors loved this!

Saturday night, they enjoyed a fire with snacks and a movie.

It was a bittersweet farewell on Sunday morning when it was time to clean and pack up to go home. The juniors absolutely love this weekend and they have so much fun!

I was very impressed with these girls as they all stuck together and included everyone in everything! No one felt left out at all! Such amazing young ladies!

Thank you, Department President Robin Dorf, for all your help as well as Past Department President Judy Ackerman.

Thank you, Kristen Donnelly, for being our resident EMT. Thank you to our cooks Joanie Krantz and Jean Walker. And thank you to the chaperones for all your help and support with the girls.

And most of all thank you to the juniors for such an awesome weekend! I will never forget it!
