Davenport endorsed for department commander

Henderson-Lewis Post 545 of Spicer and the 7th District endorse Garylee Davenport for commander for the 2026-27 year.
Serving in the Army National Guard 1983-1995, then active Army 1985-1988, with most of the time serving as an 11B (infantry soldier). He served in Georgia, Egypt and Germany, leaving as a disabled veteran.
As a PUFL of Spicer Post 545, he has served as commander, adjutant, 2nd vice commander, sergeant-at-arms, Executive Committee, Honor Guard and director of American Legion Riders Chapter 545. He is the current 1st vice commander and fills in on the honor guard at times.
He served with the 7th District as commander, vice commander at-large, membership director, Area C vice commander, chaplain, sergeant-at-arms, ALR director and on the Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation Committee. He currently serves as ALR director for a third time.
At the Department of Minnesota level, Davenport served as sergeant-at-arms 2017-18. He was chairman of the VA&R Committee 2022-23 and still serves on the committee. Other roles he has held are member of the LIT Committee, two years on DEC and assistant director of the ALR
He is a PUFL member of the Sons of The American Legion.
He works for Factory Motor Parts going on 20 years. After 27 years, he retired from Atwater Fire Department in October 2020. Twenty-one of those he served as an EMT for the ambulance service.
Davenport is proud to belong to DAV, 40&8, Eagles, Elks, Willmar Rifle & Pistol Club, Two Harbors Gun Club and Belgrade Sportsman’s Club. He is a member of ANAVICUS.
Davenport has been a member of The American Legion for 20 years. He enjoys gardening, trap-shooting, practical shooting, fishing, hunting and riding motorcycles.
