Ryder Peace had a big game in Shakopee’s 12-4 victory over Fridley Gold Aug. 3 in the state tourney semifinals at St. Michael-Albertville High School. Peace was two-for-two with three runs scored and two RBIs. Nick Johnson drove in three runs and Cameron Schroeder chipped in for Shakopee with a two-for-four game that included three runs scored and two RBIs. Caden Olson went three-for-four to provide additional opportunities for Shakopee. Tyler Hand and Jacck Goldsberry had two hits each as Fridley Gold finished a 26-3 season and collected a share of third place along with East Grand Forks.

WINNING PITCHER SWEENEY, LOSING PITCHER STASSEN
In the State Legion Tournament semifinals Aug. 3 at St. Michael’s Lower Rec Field, Grand Rapids outlasted East Grand Forks 8-6. Kaden Sweeney was the winning pitcher in relief of starter Nolan Svatos. Offensively, Svatos led the winners by going three-for-four with two runs scored. Sam Dick and Alex Wegwerth each added two hits. Parker Erickson had three of East Grand Forks’ six hits as East Grand Forks finished the season 26-4 overall.

Each team had one big inning during the State Division I American Legion Baseball Tournament championship game Aug. 3 at Lower Rec Field in St. Michael. Grand Rapids scored eight runs in the bottom of the fourth. Shakopee scored five in the top of the seventh on its way to a 13-9 victory. It was a big game for the hitters and a rough game for the pitchers with Shakopee piling up 14 hits and Grand Rapids 13. Nick Johnson and Kaden Olson led Shakopee with three hits each. Brodie Sullivan and Colton Jenks each added two. Ethan Morgan and Nolan Svatos had three hits each for Grand Rapids and teammate Alex Wegwerth had two. Sam Dick and Caleb Gunderson joined Morgan with two RBIs each. Grand Rapids (20-14) and Shakopee (30-5-1) both qualified to play in the Central Plains Region Tournament.
