State Legion directors looking for All-Tournament players
ST. MICHAEL — For the first time ever last year, Minnesota American Legion Baseball state and district chose an All-State Tournament Team.
The project was deemed a success and will continue this season.
Wes Thompsson, 6th District baseball director, said, “The first thing you look at is playing ability. You want to see the plays they make. And sportsmanship toward the other team and the umpires is another area.”
State Baseball Director Randy Schaub, “First of all, you look at things like stats, hustle and the way they carry themselves as players … basically the same things scouts look for. You want to be able to determine: Is he a competitor>
“One thing I always look at is: How well does a player get along with his teammates,” said Third District Baseball Director Bruce Young. “Obviously, ability is a big part of it. But It’s also about how well you perform when the game is on the line. I have always like players who lead and pat their teammates on the back.”
The 2025 All-State Tournament team will include pitchers, catchers, infielders and outfielders. Note to the players: Put your best self in the public eye. If you are an all-star, chances are the committee will notice.
