During a recent visit to North St. Paul Post 39 as part of the 4th District Leadership Tour, Commander Jon Haworth talks with World War II veteran Bob Holmstrom about his book, “Warbirds in the Cloak of Darkness.” The book is a true story of Holmstrom’s experiences as a member of a B-24 bomber flight crew flying secret nighttime missions as part of “Operation Carpetbagger,” dropping supplies, propaganda and agents to resistance fighters in Europe. At 98, Holmstrom is the oldest member of Post 39.
