6th District Commander’s October 2024 Report

By Frank Grittner

Greetings from the BIG 6th District. We are back from the National Convention and the Legionville Camporee.

National was a wonderful time. We had an opportunity to spend some time at the National WWII Museum. I heard several people say they could have spent a whole week there. I wholeheartedly agree with them. That whole place was just amazing! And we were only able to see a small fraction of what was there.

Camporee was also just great. We here in the 6th District really showed up. We had a lot of campers, and many more showed up on Saturday. The fish fry on Saturday was a big success.

I am so grateful for all of the workers, and for those that attended. We will be making a nice donation back to Camporee.

We also had the 6th District Family meeting after the fish fry. I was happy to welcome all of our Department of Minnesota leadership. I love it when we can do things as a District Family.  Because as my theme says “Together We Can.”

So now we get into the heart of the Legion year. Lots of membership dinners and other events are coming up. We had National Security/Foreign Relations Weekend at Camp Ripley, followed by the Harvest Rally in Fridley.

Next up is the Fall Conference in St. Cloud on Oct. 24-26. I hope we have a big turnout for these events. I’m looking forward to meeting and seeing many of you from around the 6th District at these events, along with our friends from all over the Department of Minnesota. Thursday night American Legion Auxiliary National President Trish Ward will be speaking, so I’m looking forward to that. There is so much to be learned, and the only way you have a voice is if you are there.

Membership is in full swing and we here in the Big 6th are doing well. While we still have work to do, we have started out well. Many of you already have heard, but I must confirm, that Jim Lucas has stepped down as our membership director due to health issues.

However, Jim has graciously agreed to help our new membership director Kasey Krautkremer from Park Rapids. Let’s all make sure we give Kasey a Big 6th District welcome. As of Sept. 4, we are at 57.38 percent, so we are on track and ahead of the schedule that has been published.

Until next time, have a safe, blessed fall and remember to Be the One!
