1st District commander’s August 2024 report

By Mark Maloney

Greetings, 1st District.

As I start my second year as 1st District commander, I have more experience than my first year. Which I think makes it easier to do the tasks of the district without the learning curve and can concentrate on the task at hand running out of the gate. If you have the time and patience, then by all means do it.

If you tried it, then ask yourself, is it worth it? My answer would be yes, because it gives you a purpose and something to look forward to if you are retired or need a way to feel needed.

We all had that calling to serve a greater purpose as we joined the military. And wondered what life after the service would be like. Well the answer is joining a service support group making it better for the active-duty members to  have a better chance then and better life in the service then we had and make it better for their families to live on the pay they receive.

Also making sure they have the help do the job asked of them to protect our freedoms. We take for granted we did our job as they are now doing the jobs we passed on to them. Now is our turn to make sure that the government and the United States citizens has their back.

They may need some help with paying bills, to help prevent homelessness. Do we not owe our veterans a better way of life than we are giving them, and do we not owe them more respect than what we are giving them?

Also, as I go throughout the district, I have seen post employees sitting around and not really doing what the employees were hired to do. Bartenders sitting with customers. Gambling managers sitting at the bar drinking and not doing the job for which they were hired.

So, post commanders, could you please take my advice and have your employee standards in place and have your employees sign them. We do not need to lose any post revenue due to stupidity, especially the liquor or gambling licenses.

In closing, I will say this year I will pay to the post who has the most attendance at the district events throughout the year a one three-year membership. The commander of that post can then give the three-year membership program to the individual who attended the most district events during the year excluding district officers.
