Nation’s longest-living Gold Star Mother honored in Big Lake
Big Lake High School and Big Lake Post & Unit 147 hosted a special event called Stellabration on Jan. 6, with a special appearance from the King himself, Elvis Presley.
The event celebrated Stella T. Huso’s 105th birthday, which was Jan. 8. She is the nation’s longest-living Gold Star Mother. The Sherburne County Board of Commissioners declared Jan. 16 “Stella Huso Day” and said she was “a relentless advocate for our nation’s veterans and their families.”
Her son, Wayne, enlisted in the Army and served in the field artillery with the 1st Cavalry Division in Vietnam. He was 20 on Aug. 13, 1969, when he was killed by an artillery round in Tay Ninh province three months into his tour.
