8th District commander’s January 2024 report

Happy New Year 8th District Legion Family,

I hope everyone’s holiday season was safe and happy. So far this year our district has met all our national membership goals, which is awesome.

Let’s talk programs. The American Legion has a lot of awards for our members and non-member veterans. If you need more information on those, please visit the department website for more information at mnlegion.org.

Also remember that national dues have increased for 2025 by $5, and Department of Minnesota will be voting on a dues increase of $3 so get with your members and make sure your dues cover those increases. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to give me a call.  Our 8th District Mid-Winter Conference will be held via Zoom this year on Feb. 3 starting at 10 a.m.; the link has gone out to all of our posts. If you have not received it, please email me, and I will get that to you.

We continue to look for district officers and program chairmen. If you are interested, please let us know. If your post is struggling with membership, we are here to help. We have received very few 2023-2024 officer reports from our posts, so I am asking that you all resend them to me at jennifer.havlick@outlook.com.

This information is important for the district, department and national. I know the demographics in our district are difficult, but I really need you to reach out to the veterans in your communities and tell them about all the amazing work we do in The American Legion. We need their help to keep the mission of the American Legion moving forward.
