6th District Commander’s Report

Greetings from the Big 6th District.

Well, another Department of Minnesota Fall Conference is in the books. It was so good to see many new faces attending. Many classes were given, which means many opportunities to learn new things. Also, it means many of you shared issues and questions you had.

Now it is your responsibility to take this information back to your posts, county councils and districts and share that information with others. I also enjoyed seeing many old friends, and most of all meeting new people and making new friends.

Halloween is also behind us, and I hope all the ghosts, goblins, princesses and superheroes had fun and everyone came home safely. This time of year also means that the farmers are out in the fields finishing up harvest, and soon we turn our attention to the various hunting trips and finishing up our fall cleanup. Please make sure you remember safety first in all your busy activities. Nothing can ruin an event faster than having to call in the emergency crew.

I would be yelled at if I forget to mention membership, so, as of Oct. 29, our membership efforts are going well as we are at 72.31 percent. Much good work has been done, but here is where it starts to get harder. The snowbirds start heading to warmer weather, and the holidays are coming up. So this is where we start to slip. Let’s keep the momentum going, I know that “Together We Can” accomplish great things.

This is also the time of year where we need to be extra sure we are checking in on people. The holidays are coming, and the long winter is settling in. Many people are leaving for the winter, and those left behind can feel isolated and forgotten. Buddy checks are more important this time of year than ever.

Be the One to check in on someone you haven’t seen or heard from in a while. Be the One to remind them they are not forgotten.

Remember that “Together We Can” and to “Be the One!”

Until next time, from the Grittner family to all of you, have a blessed, happy Thanksgiving and a joyous holiday season.
