5th District commander’s September report
Every late summer, we begin to look forward to the new American Legion year.
Summer has the Boys/Girls State programs, Minnesota American Legion Riders’ Legacy Run, Department Convention, National Convention and Minnesota American Legion Baseball/Softball tournaments. There’s the Minnesota State Fair, and sweet corn is in season. Schools open soon, and posts are beginning to gather for the upcoming year. Pancakes and omelet gridles are being prepared.
This past summer I was invited to several post activities including: the Minneapolis Post No.1 picnic, The Hellenic Post 129 picnic and the 75th Celebration of the Aviation Post 511.
It was great to get around and meet many of our Legionnaires on their turf and not simply at a district meeting. Think about traveling post to post. There are lots of good things happening out there.
Thanks to all who helped get the Fighting 5th District get off the Goose Egg. It is a great start to our membership season, and we look to keeping up the momentum.
The COVID-19 challenge is, for the most part, behind us and folks are ready to resume their interpersonal activities as best they can. Post and district meetings are the two best places to start.
Note: Minnesota State Fair: Opening Ceremony for Day’s events with the theme “Honoring Vietnam Veterans. Military.” The event includes a flag-raising ceremony and a flyover at 10:25 a.m.
“To consecrate and sanctify our comradeship by our devotion to mutual helpfulness.”
