5th District commander’s August report

By Dick Ward

As I look forward to my second term as commander of The Fighting 5th District, I am reminded of those Legionnaires who supported me then and those who support me now. Thanks for your vote of confidence.

Past 5th District Commander Lynne Nottage built a strong foundation for supporting our future progress. I wish to acknowledge her efforts and wish Lynne well in her new role as department vice commander for the 4th and 5th districts. Thanks, and good luck, Lynne!

We plan to use the foundation that Lynne built as a springboard for an amazing year.  Membership was strong at the end of July 2023, and we plan to continue that focus throughout the entire year. We have a great team in place and lots of new activities are in the works.  Parades, blood drive, speakers at joint sessions of the 5th District Legion Family and many more ideas are contemplated. Stay tuned!

The 104th Department of Minnesota Annual Convention was a resounding success, and we look forward to working with Paul Hassing, our new department commander. Congratulations, Commander Paul.

New membership packages have been distributed to every post, and once again we begin our quest for membership and the benefits to all veterans derived from that effort. The American Legion supports many people and programs and strong membership is the backbone of that effort.
