5th District commander’s January 2024 report
Happy New Year to you all. I hope your holidays were filled with peace and friendship. We had a wonderful time at the Hellenic Post 129 Christmas Party hosted by Commander Don Forchas.
It was a wonderful evening with live music and Christmas carols. Thanks!
The Minneapolis Veterans Home celebrated an outstanding Pheasant Dinner on Dec. 7. This event was well-attended by American Legion Family members, and other veterans service organizations and several Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs administrators.
There was a huge turnout at the Pearl Harbor Rally at Paynesville Post 271. Inclement weather notwithstanding, they turned out in droves and packed the post. The American Legion is alive and well in Minnesota.
I received word this week that Wold-Chamberlain Post 99 was vandalized to the tune of about $15,000 in early December. A fundraiser will be set up soon, and we will get the word out to help them wherever we can.
Thanks to all for your continued support and the membership you transmit. We continue to meet the goals assigned by National HQ. As we near the later part of the membership, trek the hill gets steeper and increasing membership can be more difficult. Stay the course and keep ’em coming!
Post 99 hosts Minneapolis-Richfield Post 435’s Omelet Breakfast on the second Sunday and Post 99 Pancake Breakfast on the fourth Sunday. Remember to support your local posts!
