4th District Commander’s October 2024 Report

By Jon Haworth

It’s been an eventful month with our recent RCCC and National Convention, and I want to extend a huge congratulations to Commander Aaron Towner of Rosetown Post 542!

Not only did he achieve bronze level for membership, but he also organized a successful blood drive. Well done, Aaron!

Our National Convention in New Orleans was truly inspiring.

National Commander Jim Lacoursier delivered some powerful and motivational speeches that left a lasting impression. My personal highlight was hearing lieutenant general, the commanding officer during Hurricane Katrina, share his experiences.

His words were both impactful, enlightening and humorous. One key takeaway from the convention is a new strategy for growing our membership. We can connect with veterans who may be looking for us by reaching out to your county assessor’s office for a list of veterans receiving property tax exemptions.

With this list, we can start visiting and inviting them to join us.

In other exciting news, North Carolina’s American Legion Cruisers are raising about $1,500 per car show for their posts.

Their success is a testament to what we can achieve, and I believe we can surpass that amount with our Legion Cruisers, especially since we allow newer performance vehicles in addition to classics.

If you’re interested in joining our Legion Cruisers, now’s the perfect time to get involved!  Let’s continue to build on our momentum and make a difference. Keep up the great work, and let’s strive to achieve even more together.
