3rd District Commander’s February 2025 Report

Christmas and New Years are over and now we head into the emotional desert of the year. You know the time (January to April), when we are covered by clouds for days and, the temperature is either very cold or right at freezing (big mess) and a lot of people don’t have activities during this time and depression can easily set in.
We must keep a close watch on our friends and neighbors. If we are talking Legion Family members, there is an easy way to do that. The post membership director should print out a list of all the members of the post 1982s, & 1982ADs. The post commander can then divide the list by the officers and post members who are willing to pitch in and the group then gives a call to all the people on his or her list at least once a month as a buddy check.
Note, I would suggest that during these checks, that no one talks about membership. It is just a health and welfare check to let them know we are thinking about them and want to help. The “22 a Day” is a topic that is near and dear to my heart.
I have had three friends and three of my old unit buddies, who have taken their own lives. It sucks. After a few months, when you have built a rapport with them, then you can talk about membership.
I have asked Dr. Steve Lansing and Col. B. Wayne Quest to be our guest speakers at mid-winter. I know they talked last year but this year they will be talking about Book 2 of “Veterans in Crisis.”
Happy New Year to Everyone and I hope you all have a fantastic 2025!
