1st District commander’s September report

By Mark Maloney

My second month as 1st District commander has been busy. On July 22, I drove the chase vehicle for the Tour of the 1st District.

Thanks to the 1st District Riders for planning and organizing a great ride. The ride started at VFW Post 1215/American Legion Post 446 and ended at Saxon Hall in Brownsville, which is owned by La Crescent Post 595’s Sy Fix.

The day was enjoyed by the American Legion Family. The following Sunday my wife, Sunshine, and I attended the omelet and French toast breakfast by the La Cresent SAL squadron.

Not only did we enjoy great food we got to spend time with our Legion family. We then went to Houston to see the Vietnam Traveling Wall hosted by the Houston Legion and community.

On July 26, I attended the Minnesota American Legion Baseball Div. I State Tournament Banquet at the Rochester International Event Center and had good time at the table chatting with Past Department Chaplain Kelley Adelsman and her husband, Mike.

On Aug. 13, we held our district picnic at the Plainview Legion. It is amazing to see 18 posts represented, coming together as a family and having fun. Not only did we have roasted ham and turkey by Jim Kellogg but sweet corn provided by Plainview Post 179.

We passed the hat and collected $300 for Honorary Jr. President Taylor McElroy’s Project, Believet. The road to success has just begun. Let’s keep up the great work and continue to set an example for the next generation to carry on where we left off.
