1st District Commander’s Report

Good afternoon, Minnesota American Legion Family.
This month in the 1st District has been a bit rough. Our longtime Adjutant and Past District Commander Wayne Hammon has stepped down from all Legion activities due to the medical issues his wife, Past District President Sharon, is undergoing. Wayne will be missed but Sharon needs him now more than the Legion does.
Then my immediate predecessor, Past Commander Mark Maloney, was in an accident and badly broke his leg. He is laid up until November at the earliest.
It’s time like these as the commander you wonder whether all the pain and disruption worth it? Then you remember other districts and commanders have been here before and have fought through and continued to get the job done. I and the other members of the 1st District Family will continue to do the same.
The 1st District is trying something new this year — holding our District Executive Board at Fall Conference as a way to get more of our district officers to Fall Conference. It’s something different. This is a year of change in more ways than one or the district ever expected.
